The Hive

The Hive is registered with Ofsted (Registration No 145587), and is based at Weston Village Primary School. The club is open before school from 7.30am to 8.55am and after school from 3.15pm to 6.00pm on weekdays, during term time. We also offer some holiday care from 7.30am to 6pm. We are predominately based in the main school hall and also spend some afternoon sessions in the classrooms. We have use of all of the school’s outside play areas and the school’s sports equipment and an extensive array of our own equipment and materials, which enable us to provide varied, high-quality out of school care.

Aims

At The Hive we aim to provide a safe, secure and relaxed environment, whilst offering a range of activities to reflect the interests of the children in our care.

What we offer

The Hive follows the Playwork Principles, so the children are free to choose activities and resources as they wish. There will always be a selection of activities and resources available, including dressing up, craft, board games, construction, computer games, physical play, cookery, gardening and reading. In addition, other resources are available for the children to select from our equipment library. In the holidays, we offer themed days and trips.

What we provide

The food we provide at The Hive is not intended as a substitute for a main evening meal. We provide healthy snacks including fresh fruit and vegetables. We promote independence by encouraging the children to clear away after themselves and help with the washing of dishes if they wish. We use fresh ingredients and follow statutory guidelines. Fresh drinking water is available at all times. We meet individual dietary requirements and parental preferences wherever possible. We recognise the importance of healthy nutrition for children delivered in a calm, friendly setting.

Staffing

Our Club is staffed by a supervisor, two playworkers and a finance officer. We also have a number of casual staff, who are also school employees. All of our staff have significant experience of working with children and hold an enhanced DBS Certificate. We maintain a staff/child ratio of 1:8 for children under the age of eight.

Registering and booking

Registration, making bookings and paying for sessions can all be done via the School Spider app. All details can be found on the attached guide. Once registered, you will be connected to your child and can set them up immediately. A guide for using childcare vouchers is also available on this page.
