Wraparound Care at Weston

The Hive is Weston Village Primary School’s wraparound childcare provision, offering before-school and after-school care for pupils in a familiar, welcoming environment.

Our aim is to provide a safe, secure and relaxed place where children can play, spend time with friends, be active, enjoy quieter activities and choose how they would like to spend their time.

The Hive is run on a not-for-profit basis, with any income reinvested into the provision and school for the benefit of children.

Opening Times

Breakfast Club
7.30am – 8.30am

After School Club
3.15pm – 6.00pm

The Hive operates on weekdays during term time.

Breakfast is available during the morning session until approximately 8.20am.

What Children Can Do

The Hive follows the Playwork Principles, giving children choice over how they spend their time.

A range of activities and resources is available, which may include:

• arts and crafts

• role play and small-world play

• board games

• construction

• physical play and sport

• outdoor play and OPAL resources

• cookery

• reading and quieter activities.

Children can choose whether they want to be active, creative, sociable or simply have some quieter time after a busy school day. Activities vary according to children’s interests, the weather and the opportunities available.

Food and Drink

Breakfast Club offers a selection of breakfast foods including cereals, toast and fruit.

During the afternoon session, children are offered a snack, including fresh fruit each day. Fresh drinking water is always available.

We work with families to meet individual dietary requirements and preferences wherever possible.

Our Team

The Hive is staffed by a supervisor and playworkers who also work within Weston Village Primary School.

This means children are cared for by adults who are familiar with the school and know many of the children well.

Staffing is planned carefully according to the number, age and needs of children attending, the activities taking place and any individual support or medical needs.

Inclusive Care

The Hive aims to be accessible and welcoming to children and families across our school community.

We work with parents, carers and relevant professionals to understand children’s individual needs and make appropriate arrangements wherever possible.

Booking and Payment

Bookings and payments are managed through School Spider.

Sessions must be booked and paid for in advance. Childcare voucher payments are accepted and can be uploaded through School Spider for approval.

Current term-time session charges are:

• Breakfast Club: £6.75

• After School Club: £13.75

Fees are reviewed annually.

Arrivals and Collection

At the end of the school day, Hive staff collect children from their classrooms and a register is taken.

If somebody different will be collecting your child, please let The Hive know in advance.

The club closes at 6.00pm. If you are delayed, please contact The Hive as soon as possible.
