Assessment Results and School Performance

At Weston Village Primary School, we are proud of our children’s achievements and the high standards they reach across the curriculum. We use statutory assessments at key points in a child’s primary education to check progress and attainment against national benchmarks. These assessments, alongside our own ongoing teacher assessments, help ensure every child is supported and challenged appropriately.

Below is a summary of our most recent outcomes for 2024–25, with comparisons to national and local (Cheshire East) data. This helps provide a clear picture of our school’s performance in context.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) – Good Level of Development (GLD

At the end of Reception, pupils are assessed against the Early Learning Goals in key areas such as communication, literacy, mathematics, and personal development. A child is said to have achieved a Good Level of Development (GLD) if they meet the expected standard in the prime areas of learning, as well as literacy and mathematics.

Phonics Screening Check

This is a statutory test of children's ability to decode and blend sounds using phonics skills, taken at the end of Year 1. The check comprises 40 words (some real, some pseudo), and the pass mark is usually 32 out of 40.

Pupils who do not meet the expected standard in Year 1 are given additional support and are expected to retake the check at the end of Year 2.

Key Stage 2 (End of Year 6) – SATs and Teacher Assessment

At the end of Year 6, pupils are assessed in reading, mathematics and grammar, punctuation and spelling (SPAG) through national tests (SATs). Writing is assessed through teacher judgement against national frameworks. These assessments help inform secondary transition and evaluate progress across Key Stage 2.

In 2025, Weston Village Primary School was selected for statutory moderation of writing. All of our teacher judgements were fully validated by external moderators, confirming the accuracy and robustness of our internal assessments.
