Y6 Outdoor Learning with Mr Hadfield
Amazing Americas!
Our Year 6s kicked off their Amazing Americas geography work for this half term by exploring Hawaii — the only US state made up entirely of volcanic islands. We discussed what a person would need to survive on an island and then put that learning into action outdoors: pupils designed their own islands and built spaces for shelter, water, food and fire using natural materials. They even learned safe fire-lighting and finished with the classic treat: toasted marshmallows!
Mr Hadfield was especially impressed by the class’s creativity and problem-solving. Ask your child what they included on their island and why!
