PE and Sport Premium at Weston
The PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to improve PE, sport and physical activity.
The funding must be used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the provision already available in school. This includes developing staff knowledge and confidence, increasing opportunities for pupils to be physically active and broadening access to sport and physical activity.
At Weston Village Primary School, our approach focuses on high-quality PE, regular physical activity, staff development, inclusive participation and a broad range of sporting and outdoor opportunities.
PE and Sport Premium 2025–26
Weston Village Primary School received £18,010 in PE and Sport Premium funding for the 2025–26 academic year.
The school supplemented the grant from its own budget, with £18,376.65 of eligible PE, sport and physical activity provision identified during the year.

The school therefore contributed £366.65 from other funding in addition to the PE and Sport Premium allocation.
What this supported
Staff development and high-quality PE
A significant proportion of the funding supported specialist sports coaches working alongside teachers, rather than replacing them.
This provided ongoing professional development through team teaching, modelling, planning support and opportunities for staff to develop their confidence and subject knowledge in delivering the PE curriculum.
Funding also supported development through OPAL, strengthening staff understanding of purposeful, active and inclusive play.
Extra-curricular sport and physical activity
Funding supported additional sporting opportunities beyond the curriculum.
These opportunities helped pupils access a broader range of physical activity and provided additional opportunities for children to be active beyond PE lessons.
Specialist and broader physical activity opportunities
External specialist provision included outdoor learning, football and cricket activities, widening pupils' experience of sport and physical activity.
The school also maintained membership of the Crewe and Nantwich School Sport Partnership, providing access to wider sporting opportunities, competition and professional support.
Inclusion and targeted participation
During 2025–26, the school used elements of the premium to improve access and participation for pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils.
Provision was designed to be inclusive, with opportunities adapted where appropriate and participation encouraged across clubs, activities and competitive sport.
Impact of the funding
The PE and Sport Premium supported:
increased staff confidence and capability in teaching PE through sustained professional development
continued access to a broad range of sporting and physical activity opportunities
additional extra-curricular opportunities for pupils
inclusive access to sport and physical activity, including for pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils
wider opportunities through specialist coaching, outdoor learning and local sporting partnerships
a continued strong profile for PE, physical activity and sport across the school.
Sustainability
The school has placed particular emphasis on building staff capability, so that improvements are not dependent solely on external provision.
Teachers working alongside specialist coaches are able to develop skills, subject knowledge and confidence which can be applied in future years.
The school will continue to:
develop staff confidence and expertise in PE
broaden extra-curricular opportunities
use pupil participation information to identify groups who may be less active
maintain links with local sporting organisations and partnerships
provide inclusive opportunities for pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils
review the impact of specialist provision to ensure it adds value and builds sustainable capacity.
Swimming and Water Safety
Swimming is taught as part of our Key Stage 2 PE curriculum.
All Year 5 pupils access a series of 10 swimming lessons at Sandbach Leisure Centre. Where a pupil has not yet met the required competencies, further opportunities are provided in Year 6.
For the Year 6 cohort in 2025–26:
94% could swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
94% could use a range of strokes effectively
91% could perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
PE and Sport Premium funding was not used for curriculum swimming or top-up swimming provision during 2025–26.
